Rapid Chess Tournament - Talented Norwegian WMI WINS!
The tournament was held on August 21, in the Hall of Tijuca Tennis Club. The atmosphere was very friendly and being a rapid chess competition seems to have helped at that point. We had the presence of 50 players including the International Master Eduardo Limp, FIDE Master Ricardo Teixeira, who had a good result in Cabo Frio, Arthur Santa Cruz and the man of the time, Vinicius Vilela. But the surprise of the tournament was the WMI Norwegian of 17 years, Katrine Tjolsen. The friendly Norwegian who was accompanied by the his proud and warm-hearted father, seemed very quietly and nice....Registered in the tournament very discreetly, but .... From round to round, point to point, beated every player and left victims all over the hall of tournament. Like a walk in the park, she actually won the tournament, totaling six points in six games! I highlight the game against MI Eduardo Limp (games are in the sequence), where she won with a good combination. My game with her was very interesting too and there is no doubt that the talented Norwegian can give me piece of advantage and yet win the whole point (like in Morphy's time). I got mated (she played the move very slowly... looking at my surprised and funny face and so the guys around the table couldn't avoid laughing out loud!). As a confession I have to admit it was the happiest defeat that I have suffered and I myself would be very glad to have already booked another one! In the last round our dear arbiter Marcelo Einhorn, who was coming from a great victory over his torturer, Vinicius Vilela, had tried to hold the position against our new guest and win the title (believe me! An arbiter was close to winning the tournament over Limp, Teixeira, Vilela and Co. But, Alas, God Caissa didn't let it happens!), but for the pleasure of the hall, who applaud the end of the game between the two, the first time in history Marcelinho lost to a female athlete. In the end the winner was none other than the WMI Katrine Tjolsen (more pictures here). Second with an excellent tournament (and recovering very well from Cabo Frio) Marcelo Einhorn. And finally, I worked hard and managed to get a sweaty third place (in order to pay for the funny night, of course). After the tournament the Master Eduardo Limp gave an interview to FEXERJ very relaxed in a pub in Ipanema. He talked about chess, told us all the secrets of life (he didn't forget anyone!) and also some interesting anecdotes. So, coming soon, interview with one of the most friendly and strong IMs from Brazil, Master Eduardo Limp.
